This box contains 43 color cards with images of ancient frescoes and vases, as well as a booklet with commentary on the ancient Delphic aphorisms or precepts. Precepts which remind us that the same issues that preoccupied people then, still preoccupy us today. They urge us to live with prudence and measure and common sense.
Within these self-knowledge cards, “today ‘s Pythia”, gives her own inspired interpretation of the Delphic precepts. The ancient sages with their condensed wisdom in these precepts shed light on all aspects of life, expanding one’s perception, understanding and ethical base, thereby promoting self knowledge -"Know thyself," which was after all the base of Socrates’ teaching as well.
What did the ancient Greek sages say about life values which can make our life have a strong ethical base? What did they say about philosophy, peace, solidarity, piety, family, self-knowledge? "Seek Wisdom”, “Be not violent”, “Ηonour the gods”, “Know thyself”, “Nothing in access” were some of these precepts. These precepts or maxims as they are also known, urge us to live ethically and wisely and remind us that the same issues we have to deal with in our everyday life today also preoccupied the people then.
These moral exhortations, though ancient in origin, can offer clarity and answers to everyday questions today. In this work, these wise precepts which were carved on the temple wall of Apollo in Delphi, have been transformed in this context into a kind of ‘modern day oracle’ where by, by holding a sincere question in one’s mind, one picks a card which may offer clarity on the subject in question.
